An approach to relational artworks as complex dynamical systems

Nowadays artists establish connections and interactions between very diverse variables, events and contexts, as much in real as virtual spaces by using hybrid technologies. The artist configures relational systems through interfaces, which exhibit emergent global dynamics that demand alternative approaches to the traditional ones for their aesthetic exploration.
Many of these works incorporate a-life, artificial intelligence, cybernetics and chaos, among other scientific paradigms. Even though concepts like self-organization, adaptation, learning, evolution and order are considered as formal elements, they are more often didactic representations defined beforehand than an open aesthetic exploration about these ideas as part of an artistic process.
Accordingly; how to contribute alternative insights for works that base their dynamics on internal interactive structures that unfold multiple permutations?. How to explore their emergent dynamical forms without beforehand defined notions that limit the aesthetic exploration process?.
The presentation is an approach to relational works as complex dynamical systems and a strategy for their emergent dynamics analyses as artistic process.
I'll discuss a formalized model for a system configuration in which the artist defines parameters and relations between them as formal elements.
In such a model emergent dynamics of the work can be seen as a series of unpredictable states given by the successive application of transformations regarding criteria about control and uncertainty.
During the presentation I'll propose explorations on the evolving form of interactive artworks that allows the artist to develop a perception of the organization, emergence, causality, and evolution as shapeable parts of its artistic process.
