Prime(al) connections
by Kenneth A. Huff
http://www.kennethahuff.com/
Ken will present an overview of his body of work, with emphasis on recent work incorporating patterns inspired by the undulating, concentric lines of fingerprints; the distribution of prime numbers and the use of prime factors as the basis for creating infinities of similar, but uniquely-varied forms.
From the first time a finger traces along the spiral of a seashell, our lives are permeated with the joy of discovery. Forms, patterns and experiences are layered in our memories and become part of the fundamental cognitive framework through which we identify and classify the world. Tapping into these primal connections, this work evokes a desire to understand and makes possible the thrill of discovering something new.
The creations are abstract, organic, three-dimensional constructions and while the subject matter is entirely imagined, the works are executed in a highly-detailed, photorealistic manner. They are created using software normally used for motion picture special effects, augmented with tools developed by the artist.
Inspiration is drawn from a variety of natural patterns and forms, combining ideas from a number of sources rather than being literal reconstructions. Overarching themes based on ideas from mathematics and the sciences also weave through the body of work.
This presentation will cover a wide sampling of the artist's works, including the inspiration, ideas and techniques behind the works.
