Subtle Discourse:Conversations about contested realities- Technology, Culture and Nation-state

By Narendra Pachkhede
Independent Media Artist and Theorist

What is Reality? In which kind of Reality do we live in? Is it Technological, Cultural or a Nation-state centric?

This paper will essentially take a look at the emerging discourse around Technology, Culture and Nation-state and attempts to map the terrain of the contestation of Reality, which is becoming increasingly problematic.

In doing so, the paper will essentially pose a theory; more in a form of provocation, to explain the contestation and thus explore the three coordinates of this contestation: Technology, Culture and Nation-state.

It will examine the contemporary philosophy of Technology, the growing body of anthropological understanding of Culture and the emergence of Transnationalism as a discourse exploring nation-state.

Such an exposition will help in understanding the emerging practice of collaboration between Art, Science and Technology and the significance of the culture coordinate in such an undertaking.

To substantiate some of the arguments, clips from a larger work, The Crossing Project, will be shown.
