An articulated aluminum deer skeleton stands motionless on a platform,
when activated by a sensor the skeleton begins to shiver in a frantic,
random motion. Using industrial materials and rudimentry mechanical
movements Vickerd fashions a dramatic experience that offers a
compellingly understated commentary on the anxiety experienced when
confronted by representations of either nature or technology.
Brandon Vickerd is a sculptor whose work explores the flaws and chaos that animate the physical world. He completed a residency at the Dalhousie School of Medicine, Anatomical Dissection Laboratory in 2002, has helped develop 3D scanning and milling technology, and has taught stone carving in Italy. Brandon completed his MFA at the University of Victoria and his BFA at NSCAD where he also taught sculpture.
