Petit Pagne

Racky Diankha, Assane Gning, Pape Teigne Diouf, Vieux Mac Faye, Senegal/Canada, 1999, web, 5:00

Also from "Dakar Web," this delightful project invokes a relationship to time that is not segmented by a clock but embodied in rhythm. Specifically, Petit Pagne suggests that the source of all knowledge can be found in the shaking of women's hips! The petit pagne or Bethio in Wolof is a decorative cloth Senegalese women tie around their hips; it is a means of seduction. Rich with examples and music, Petit Pagne is at once informative, sly, and erotic.
