Immanence in the Pixel: Traditional Cultural Origins of Math and Technology
An evening of film video and web screenings curated by Laura U. Marks
Presented Saturday, May 11th at 8 pm

Origin

Jason A. Harrington, United States, 16mm, 5:00

This beautiful work, shot in 16mm, finds both symmetry and chaos at all scales of life, from the subatomic to the cosmic. Harrington's painterly animations evoke the ongoing cycle from the all-encompassing emptiness of the egg, to the fullness of material life, to dispersion in the infinite.

Jason A. Harrington - Biography

Jason A. Harrington's work addresses the social, political and technological impact of science. He holds degrees in both filmmaking and human Ecology. His video Dear Nora: Regarding the Myth of Science addresses his struggle to comprehend distinctions between artistic and scientific modes; his video Time and Form explores the relationship between natural forms and human memory. He is also a carpenter, sculptor, and painter. "I am more interested in phylogeny then I am in ontogeny. Because of this I make a tremendous effort to bring the concrete, the contradictory, and the specific into my work."
